I love working with networking and related technologies that bring people closer together.

I have had something going with networking ever since I can remember, from the very time I started working with computers. At one time I had 5 PCs all connected to a LAN and the outside internet via dial-up if you can believe that. Yes, that was my very first LAN, created using a combination of coaxial and 10baseT network interfaces - whatever I could get my hands on to link PCs together.

As far as network equipment is concerned, my current favorite is LinkSys - every bit of it has worked flawlessly and it's been a no brainer to intergrate more of their gear into any network I have worked on. I am looking forward to getting one of the new wireless G routers with SpeedBoost, so we can get rid of the rest of the networking cable that is currently running across various floors here. We have two PCs that will go wireless as soon as money permits, because their users do not require that much bandwidth, one of which is not networked at all right now.

My only real complaint about LinkSys equipment is their WUSB11 wireless adapter I used with an older LinkSys wireless B router. It seems to require having the router be set to broadcast the SSID (network identifier), which makes the wireless part of the LAN identifiable by anyone with a wireless enabled PC - NOT good for security. Hopefully the newer LinkSys wireless G adapters will not require this. The PCI adapters work fine without having the router broadcast the SSID.

I have two PCs here at present, a 733 Mhz Pentium III with 192 Meg of SDRAM (quark) and an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ with 512 Meg of DDR266 RAM (intrepid). I have one other PC here, in the stage of being rebuilt - another AMD based system (Athlon XP 2100+, voyager).

Yes, I am a networking junkie! :D However, I do not believe in technology which does not enhance life or make something possible that couldn't be easily done (or at least more easily done) before. Sometimes, I think I am worse about adopting new technologies than a major corporation! Well, I do have to be careful about where I allocate my dollars, just like a small business would..
